Getting Your Biking Kit Set for the New Season| MBA Podcast Ep 9

mountain-biking-podcast-episode-9Hi folks and welcome to episode 9 of the Mountain Bikes Apart podcast!

I’m joined on the podcast by somebody else today. His name is Andrew Gourlay and he’s helping out with the website at the moment. Andrew’s new to biking and will be representing the beginners in this episode. He’ll be pitching in some of the more silly questions and using his outdoor experience, in other fields, to add snippets of info here and there.

This time around we’re talking about the kit you need to gather together to start off the season and hit those trails. This was thanks to a question from Anthony Cohen from the U.S.

Here’s what Anthony had to say:

I think a kit section would be awesome. I know by the time the season comes back around, I have to scrounge all around the house to get my kit back together. Would be cool to have a segment about what’s good to bring along on a ride.

So in this episode we’re looking at the three main categories of kit to bring along on a ride.

  1. Clothes
  2. Repair

And at the end we talked about how to organise it all so that you’re always ready to get out to the door.

Have a listen to the episode for a full low-down on how best to get your kit together for what promises to be another great biking season.

Resources from This Episode

On the topic of cycling clothing I mentioned my shirt from Trail 42, particularly their Bamboo tops which are made of sustainable material such as bamboo.

I also talked briefly about the Fuse knee and elbow pads that I used a few years back. Decent pads for those looking for a light, comfortable pad just for a little bit of protection.

I’d love to get some reports from people on future podcasts about their local trail highlights. It would be great to cover areas around the globe that have some good spots for mountain biking. If you know your area pretty well and don’t mind chatting about a few of the best local trails, get in touch. I’d love to have you on!

Love the podcast and agree on the duct tape and zip ties. little tip to share get an Ikea pencil and wind lengths of duct tape round that so it saves taking a whole roll in your pack.
Suggestion for a future episode – suspension setup/tuning covering sag rebound and compression to get the most out of your forks/shock.

Hi Alex, sorry for the slow reply, missed this somehow!

Great suggestion there – much easier than carting around that whole roll. I’m off to Ikea (other massive furniture shops are available…)

Good call on the future episode topic too – I’ll look into that. Might be able to get an expert on to talk about it. Suspension is the one area I tend to leave to the bike shop!

    Cheers!

Great podcast. For a weekend away at a trail centre I usually have a rear mech hanger in my bag. It weighs next to nothing but really useful if you snap one on the first day riding as not all LBS have replacements specific to your bike
