Glentress and Innerleithen – Best Mountain Bike Trails in the UK

For anyone that hasn’t seen it yet, my local pair of trails, Glentress and Innerleithen, have been awarded ‘Top UK Trail’ by Mountain Bike Rider magazine.

It’s a brilliant accolade for two great trails on the 7 Stanes roster, and totally deserved! The tweed valley pair opened proper in 2004 but had been entertaining mountain bikers for years before that, prior to development even beginning on the custom made sections. Now hundreds of riders drop down through spooky wood and into the trees every week and, as I posted previously, development is continuing apace to make the place even better.

I read recently that the long awaited Innerleithen chairlift had received some sort of approval – no doubt only the first step of many though – so I wonder if we might have a combined uplift and downhill section to rival the Nevis Range sometime in the next year or so. That, combined with the fact that there are apparently plans for a £4m centre in the tweed valley, should make sure that there’s no better place to live than central Scotland if you favour the 2 wheeled, off-road machine.

This means I’m going to have to get on with my Glentress trail guide though so look out for the rest of that soon, and I’m ashamed to say I’ve not been to Innerleithen in ages. I’ll make sure and remedy that mistake though in the coming month, and put up a good trail guide here as soon as I do!

Colin started mountain biking in the early 2000s and has haphazardly, and with barely increasing skill, dragged his bike around the majority of Scotland's trail centres since then. I agree, although Golspie is worth a shout.

Thanks Magnus, I’ve heard it’s really good at the wildcat trails but never managed a visit.

I’m trying to tick off my remaining unridden Scottish trails this summer so I’ll make the trek north at some point and put up a post about it!
