Girls on Bikes – Better trail riders than me!

I just read a post on the ‘What Mountain Bike’ blog about girls in biking which made me remember a trip out to Glentress last weekend. You can see the article here.

I’m ashamed to say that I have to admit to a moment of male chauvinism on that visit when two girls trundled up to the top picnic bench behind us. They were on nice bikes and properly kitted up so I had no illusions that they weren’t used to being out on their bikes, but I still had a moment of, “Ope, better get out before them, they’ll slow me down.” I’m more proud to admit that I then quickly lambasted myself and admitted that they could easily be better than me. Look at riders such as Rachel Atherton and Tracy Moseley, as pointed out the aforementioned article, who could hand my ass to me on a platter on any trail they care to mention.

Needless to say, the two girls at Glentress were also pretty awesome, and passed me at the bottom of the first section! There were a few disgruntled looking guys there as you’d expect, but me, I was just standing there grinning wondering just how I was going to get their phone numbers…
