Why Do you Want a Mountain Bike in the First Place? | MBA Podcast Ep8

This week I’m starting a series of episodes based around my What Mountain Bike Guide. I’ve always had the idea of having them in audio format so that I can direct people to them in case of questions.

The guide covers all of the questions I’m most commonly asked, and is aimed at a range of riders from those just starting out in mountain biking, to those that are pretty good now but want to upgrade their current steed, either with a full replacement or starting to change out parts.

Why a Mountain Bike?

This episode starts from scratch, looking at why you’d want a mountain bike in the first place. Probably an obvious question to most people reading this site, but I do talk to a lot of people just thinking about taking up the sport. They often wonder whether the type of riding they’re looking to do really justifies a mountain bike, or whether a hybrid might be a better option.

I’m not going to spoil all the good stuff, you can listen to the episode to find out more, or pop over to Chapter 1 in the guide to sneak a peek. You can find it here: Chapter 1: Mountain bike or Road Bike

Let me know What you Think

As always, give me your feedback. This episode might well be too basic for most, but spare a thought for the folk just starting out in our sport. Imagine the years of pain and boredom ahead of them if they get the road bike/mountain bike question wrong….

Let me know if you want more of the Guide in future though. If you pop over to the guide and think anything’s missing too, just let me know. I’d love to build it out more and make sure I’m covering all the common questions asked by people new to the sport.

And, of course, for future normal episodes, let me know what you want to hear about. If you have any ideas for topics, email them in, or pop them in the comments below.

Do You Work in the Mountain Bike Industry?

I’m looking to get more new voices on the Podcast, so if you work in mountain biking, or you’re heavily involved in some way, get in touch. Here’s some examples:

  • Mountain bike racers, any discipline
  • Event organisers
  • Bike shop mechanics or owners
  • Trail builders or managers

If you have a story to tell, I’d love to speak to you. Drop me an email through the contact page. Thanks!
